Summer '20 Hair Color Trends

The beginning of a new decade (especially a year as CRAZY as this one has been) is the BEST time to try something new with your hair! One of the reasons I LOVE what I do so much is that the trends are ever-evolving & it never gets boring. There's always something fun & new to learn & try when it comes to coloring methods & new style trends.

I think especially considering that we're currently living in a crisis that has most of us confined to our homes & our hair salons closed, so many of us are daydreaming about getting back into the salon & CRAVING a color change once that day finally comes! If you're looking for some inspiration or wondering what is "in" for the upcoming Summer season, I got you, Girl!

I came across a great article in Harper's Bazaar from this last January with predictions of color trends for the year & I also have some predictions of my own based on what I've seen from THE GRAM & here are some of my favorites!

1. Twilighting

A subtle, yet dimensional combination of baby lights & ombré highlights; perfect for those of us who rely on a super soft grow-out!

Its a great way to liven up a brunette shade that is in need of some dimension, or to slowly begin the transition from light to blonde.

I actually think this is exactly what some of you might know better as a sombré, if you don't wanna get too technical! A SUBTLE OMBRÉ!

2. Two-Tone

Think early 2000s Christina Aguilera! Dimensional & edgy, perfect for someone who likes a bold look & doesn't mind a more high-maintenance color.

3. Muted Reds

I'm sure you all know that this is instantly my favorite because we all know how much I love my reds!! Strawberry tones & reddish brunettes are SO stunning! Of course, colors like these also tend to fall more on the higher end of the maintenance spectrum, but not to worry- there are tons of products you can use at home to help ensure the longevity of your color so be sure to ask your stylist!

4. Chunkier Highlights

Okay now I can see this one being a little bit controversial because if you're from Southern California, specifically the Inland Empire region like me, you will get instant flashbacks to the days of "bros" & "bro-hoes." [Insert laughing emoji here]

It doesn't have to be so drastic though & it is especially suitable on those with curly hair. When executed correctly & with a balance of babylights & balayage ends, this look is freakin' GORGEOUS,

As far as the level of maintenance on something like this, it depends on whether you & your stylist opt to take your highlights straight to the root, which would require more upkeep, or if you decide to leave a soft transition from your natural color into the highlights, which would allow you more time in between appointments.

Whether you decide to stick with your current hair color or you decide to try something new, we hairstylists are going to be more thrilled than ever when we are finally able to open back up & have you seated in our chairs!! Always keep in mind that hair color can be CHANGED (within reason & with realistic expectations, of course) so don't be afraid to experiment with your look & to try something new! Let me know down below which of these trends you're liking the most!!
